Question

Does oil have to be fully washed out of hair when doing wudhu? To what extent should it be washed?

What if one has a large amount of oil in his hair?

Answer

In principle, anything which prevents the water from reaching the skin of the limb to be washed in wudhu should be removed prior to wudhu.  Similarly, anything preventing water to reach any part of the body should be removed prior to ghusl.

Oil is not something which will prevent water from reaching the skin unless it is something sticky or it solidifies.  Therefore, there is no need to remove the oil before doing wudhu.  Extracted from Ahsanul Fatawa, vol. 2, pg.20, HM Saeed Company & Raddul Muhtar, p.153 vol.1, Darul Fikr)
