Question:

As an employee when you first start you are automatically enrolled in a local government pensions schemes, however one has an option to opt out.https://www.gmpf.org.uk/ shows the pension scheme it’s a career average scheme but also gives other benefits.

Is it permissible to stay within the scheme?

Answer:

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

In essence, as long as your pension scheme does not invest, or is involved in haram industries (alcohol, interest-based banking, pornography etc.) it would be a valid scheme. We would advise you to find a shariah complaint pension investment program with consultation from your local scholars.

And Allah SWT alone knows best.
