Is it permissible to make dua to get married to someone specific?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Is it permissible to make dua to get married to someone specific whom I love because of her good Islamic character? If yes, then may I know any specific dua?

Answer

(Fatwa: 396/L-175/TL=1434)

If any girl is pious then you can supplicate to marry her. Dua should be made in this way that O Allah if there is goodness in marrying her then arrange my nikah with her”. It is not lawful to do any amal or get it done or thinking about her before nikah. Hakimul Islam Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanavi (رحمة الله) writes: “The scholars of Fiqh have termed it unlawful to write a tawiz by which a woman gets control over her husband. So when it is haram to give such tawiz in the state of nikah then in the case when no nikah is done how would it be lawful to give such a tawiz by which a non-Mahram is controlled. But many persons give such tawiz which as per the explanation of scholars of Fiqh is a sin even if given by any pious person.” (Islami Shadi 327)
