MY brother does not have a child. I have already two children and another child is expected. My brother wants to adopt this child. Is it allowed in Islam or not? Please explain in detail.

(Fatwa: 476/476/M=1433)
It is lawful to adopt a child. The holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) adopted Zaid ibn Harsah (رضى الله عنه) which is enough proof for it being lawful. However, the ruling of real son shall not be applicable merely by adopting.
