What Are the Rights Of My Half-Siblings?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org
Question: What are the rights of my half-siblings?
Dear questioner,
Thank you for your important question.
May Allah, Most High reward you for thinking about the rights of others over you.
When we have any issues with our parents, it is important to remember 2 core principles from the Quran and Sunna:
  1. And your Lord has decreed that you only worship Him and that you treat your parents, a good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], “uff,” and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. [Quran 17:23]
  2. The Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: “There is no obedience to any created being if it involves disobedience to Allah, Most High.” [Bukhari, Muslim]
Your responsibility toward your half-siblings is similar to the general responsibility one has over siblings, neighbors, and friends. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:
“The rights of a Muslim on the Muslims are five: to respond to the salaam, visiting the sick, to follow the funeral processions, to accept an invitation, and to reply to those who sneeze.” [Bukhari]
You should, in the best of manners, explain to your Mother that her allowing you to have a simple relationship with your half-siblings will be a means to please Allah, Most High, and an increase of blessings.
At the same time, be mindful of your Mother’s emotions and recognize her pain. Use wisdom when discussing this subject.
Serving one’s parents is a foundational part of this religion and an amazing means to draw close to Allah, Most High.
And Allah alone knows best.
