What Is the Mahr of the Prophet’s Wives and How to Calculate It

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darul Iftaa Chicago
What is the mahr azwaj amount and why do different Darul Iftaas differ on it? Is it because the time of calculation may differ?

Also, what is the easiest way for me to calculate it at the time of nikah so I may get the exact amount closest to the sunnah, inshaAllah?

الجواب حامدا ومصليا

The mahr that Rasulullah ﷺ gave to his wives was 500 dirhams.[1] This is equivalent to 1.5 kilograms of silver. The value of silver fluctuates, and the most accurate way to calculate a dollar amount is based off the prices on the day of the nikāḥ.

And Allah knows best.

[كان صداقه لأزواجه ثنتي عشرة أوقية] وهي أربعون درهم… النش: النصف من كل شيء
