Working in Restaurant Serving Alcohol

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: One of my sister-inlaws family member has recently started working in a restaurant as a chef or waiter where alcohol is also served. Would his income halal and is my sister inlaw ok to go over and stay with them and eat with them?

A: It is not permitted to work as a waiter serving alcohol or haram food and any income earned for doing so is haram. If this is the case your sister-in-law should avoid eating at the house of this family member. However, if the family member does not serve alcohol or haram food the job as a waiter will be permitted and any income earned for doing so will be halal.

And Allah knows best.
