Q: On whatsapp, which is an instant messaging service for smartphones, people can post a profile for themselves. Many people post a photograph of themselves, other people or other animate objects.
Is this permissible? Please explain.
A: Although some of our Senior ulama have permitted digital pictures of animate pictures provided they are not of ghair mahareem and a lewd nature, the more precautious veiw would be to abstain, as the virtue of caution and taqwa in all matters is phenomenal.
