Troubled Thoughts about Divorce

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: I get waswasa (troubled thoughts and doubts) about divorce a lot especially when I’m angry about something. One day I was angry that the mechanic was taking too long too fix my car. I was getting impatient and I kept getting the thoughts in my mind, even though I don’t want to dvorce my wife, and I was scared of saying anything in case I utter something bad. I was scared to say bye bye to my son, but then I decided to say bye to my son and then as I was saying bye bye to my son I remembered how angry I was about my car not being fixed and a thought came in my mind which was – I divorce your mother (Allah forbid). This was in my mind and I really just wanted to say bye bye to my son in the beginning but the anger and waswasa made me have this thought. Does it affect my marraige? I really don’t want to divorce my wife.

A: As long as you never verbally say the words of divorce no divorce will take place.
