Can one undergo the Covid-19 test whilst fasting? The test involves a throat or nose swab without medication.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
A swab constitutes of a narrow stick made of a short plastic rod that is covered, at one tip, with absorbing material such as cotton, polyester, or flocked nylon.
Inserting a dry object into the mouth and throat does not nullify a fast. Accordingly, the Covid-19 test will not nullify the fast even if it induces vomiting.
Vomiting unintentionally or unintentionally swallowing the vomit will not invalidate the fast. However, swallowing it intentionally will invalidate the fast.
