Is money acquired by lying Halāl?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org
I am in a dilemma as I have gone to Dubai to earn for the sake of my family. I am designated to the position of sales executive. We are dealing with A4 type of papers (photocopy paper) where we meet our customers and ask for their orders.
There are at situations where I would need to convince my customer to accept the product by telling some lies. Not all the papers are bad but some as per some customers feedback they say that this paper is not good, but I have to convince them however. I feel bit awkward. Now my question if I earn in this manner, will my earnings be halal. I have a dream of sending my parents to Hajj IN SHA ALLAAH by earning here.

Please guide me as what to be done in my job.
Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The hallmark of a Muslim is to be truthful and honest. It does not behove a Muslim to lie and deceive even in business and trade. Consider the following Ahādīth,

Rasūlullah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said,

Both the buyer and the seller have the choice of refund as long as they do not separate. If they speak the truth and do not hide anything, then there will be blessing (Barkah) in their transaction. If

they lie and conceal anything, the blessing of their transaction will be erased.[1]

Rasūlullah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) also said,

مَنْ غَشَّنَا فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا

“The one who deceives is not on our path.”[2]

As an employee, you may promote the paper by stating the positive aspects of the paper. If you come to know of any defect in any paper, do not speak lies to convince the costumer that the paper is good. Moreover, bring it to the attention of your employer. Nevertheless, your income as an employee is Halāl.[3]
