If money was acquired by lying is it still permissible to utilize it?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

aslamualaikum.

i have one question if you could kindly answer.

i am entitled to a £1000 because of a car accident i was involved in 6-7 yrs ago. However, this money will not be given to me until i am 18yrs old. I applied for £750 out of the £1000 in order to start driving lessons and to buy myself a view needed things. When applying for this money i lied and told them i was going to purchase a laptop which infact is not true. I just wanted to ask whether this money is hala and permissible for me to use on my driving lessons and a few other neccessities.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is a major sin to deceive and lie.[1]However, make lots of Tawbah and Istighfar when you use the money, as you adopted a sinful way to obtain the money.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
