You quoted a hadith, where Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘Two carions are made Halaal for us; Fish and locust.’ (Mishkaat vol.2 pg.361). What is the authenticity of this hadith? Some people question the authenticity of this hadith, and hence the position of the Hanafi school of thought.
This Hadith has been recorded by various Imaams of Hadith. Some of them are: ibn Majah in his Sunan (Hadith3314), Imaam Ahmad in his Musnad (vol.2 pg.97; Hadith5723, Imaam Bayhaqi in his al-Sunan al-Kubraa (vol.1 pgs.253-254).
This Hadith has been classified as Sahih by Imaam ibn Daqiqil ?Eed (Khulasatul Badrul Muneer pg.12). Besides him, several other Muhadditheen have approved of its overall authenticity. Among them are: Imaam Bayhaqi, Imaam Abu Zur?ah al-Raazi and Imaam Abu Haatim al-Raazi (refer Talkheesul Habeer vol.1 pg.161 and al-Sunanul Kubraa of Imaam Bayhaqi (vol.1 pg.254)
This Hadith fulfils the criteria of being Hasan (sound) or Sahih (authentic) according to Hafiz ibn Hajar. (refer Hidaayatur ruwaat vol.4 pg.130 and Fathul Baari vol.9 pg.774 Hadith5495).
Hence, there remains no doubt as to it’s authenticity. For further details, refer to the footnotes of Shaykh Ahmad Shakir on Musnad Ahmad.
