Can Kabir be kept as a name and what does it mean?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Can you keep the name Kabir? And what is the meaning of the name?

Answer

The name Kabeer means big and exalted. This is one of the attributes of Allah. It is permissible to keep this name with the condition that one adds the word Abd with it making it Abdul-Kabeer, the slave of the Kabeer. We are advised by Rasoolullah that the best names are the ones which begin with Abd.
