I have been challenged by a friend to provide her proof (Quran & Hadith) that she cannot handle or read the Quraan during her periods.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Does any proof exist, if so, please provide asap WITH the proper references.

Answer

If a woman passes through her periods, then she is Napaak (impure). Allah Ta
‘ala says in the noble Qur’aan, ‘Say, this (Haydh) is an impurity.’ (Surah 2
Verse222)

Such impure people are prohibited from reciting and holding the Noble Qur’
aan. Allah Ta’ala says ‘None should hold the Qur’aan except the clean and
pure.’ (Surah 56 Verse 79). Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) has said,
‘None should hold the Qur’aan except the one who is pure.’ (Maraaseel Abu
Dawood pg.8; HM Saeed)

In a Hadith, Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘A woman in her
periods and a person who is impure should refrain from reciting the Qur’aan.
‘ (Tirmidhi pg.34; HM Saeed)
