Salaam

Could Mufti please give us more info on the life of Saarah (R.A), the wife of Ebrahim (A.S). What does Saarah mean? Can Mufti tell us about her life. Would appreciate a detailed answer. Jazaakallah

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sarah means “The one who instills happiness”

▪Sarah (Radhi Allahu Anha) was the first woman who accepted the message of Tawheed (Oneness of Allah Ta’ala )from Ebrahim (Alahi As-Salaam).[i]

▪ Sarah (Radhi Allahu Anha) is the wife of Ebrahim (Alahi As-Salaam).

▪Sarah (Radhi Allahu Anha) accompanied Ebrahim (Alahi As-Salaam) in his travels.

▪In Egypt, Sarah (Radhi Allahu Anha) encountered a tyrant king who made evil advances towards her. Sarah (Radhi Allahu Anha) made dua to Allah Ta’ala to protect her chastity. Allah Ta’ala accepted her dua and saved her from the evil intentions of the tyrant king. The king gifted Hajar to Sarah (Radhi Allahu Anha). She in turned gifted Hajar to Ebrahim (Alahi As-Salaam).

▪ Hajar (Radhi Allahu Anha) gave birth to Ismael (Alahi As-Salaam).

▪Sarah (Radhi Allahu Anha) did not have a child. Later in her life, Allah Ta’ala granted Sarah (Radhi Allahu Anha) a son Ishaq (Alahi As-Salaam).

▪Sarah (Radhi Allahu Anha) is thus the wife of a prophet and also mother of a prophet.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
