Displaying images of an eye

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalamualaikum

Respected Mufti

can one use or display vases/magnets/dishes which have images of an eye? they believe it wards of evil eyes and bad intentions (like an anti-nazr amulet from what i understand).

Please clarify.

JazakAllah.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Displaying images of an eye believing that it wards off evil has no basis in Islam.[i] It is impermissible to use such images to ward off evil eye (Bad-Nazar) and bad intentions.

One should make Dua to Allah for protection from evil eye and may also recite the following to ward off evil eye (Bad-Nazar):

1.     Ayatul Kursi

2.     Mu’awazatain i.e. Surah Al-Falaq and Surah Al-Nas

Translation: “In the name of Allah, may He cure you from all kinds of illnesses and safeguard you from the evil of a jealous one when he feels jealous and from the evil influence of eye.” (Muslim: 2185)

Translation: O Allah! I seek Refuge with Your Perfect Words from every devil and from poisonous pests and from every evil, harmful, envious eye. (Bukhari: 3371)
