Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalamualaikum warahamatullahi wabarkatuh mufti sb, Recently I had a dispute with my wife as she missed the farz fast of Ramazan without valid reason.I was explaining to her the wayeed of leaving farz fasting which she took it lightly and I got angry and said. Iske waaste “Mai tuje talaaq doonga” has talaq occurred in this case.later we compromised. Please guide me in this matter.

Jazak Allah khair

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuhu.

The statement, “Mai tuje talaaq doonga” means, “I will give you divorce”. This refers to an intention to give divorce in the future. This statement does not constitute divorce.

In future, we advise you to apply wisdom and diplomacy in correcting the wife. It is unwise and inappropriate for you to threaten your wife with divorce, in order to correct her[1].

And Allah Ta ‘āla Knows Best
