Complaining About Fasting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

when ramadhan comes around i use to say there going to be hard to keep this year. i also said there going to disrupt my routine and i find them hard to keep. does this take me into the fold of kufr?

if so what do i need to do? i keep the fasts every year but i just say things like i find them hard and they disrupt my eating schedule.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) used to look forward to Ramadan two months before Ramadan.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would make the following du‘a:

“O Allah, bless us in Rajab and Sha‘ban and allow us to reach Ramadan.” (Majma‘ al-Zawa’id, 4774)

Ramadan comes with a lot of blessings. Consider the following:

Abu Hurayra (radhiallahu ‘anhu) narrated that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Ramadan has come to you, a blessed month in which Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has commanded you to fast. In it the gates of Heaven are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained. In it is night better than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.” (Nasai, 2106)

Ramadan is a means of gaining forgiveness for our sins.

Abu Hurayra (radhiallahu ‘anhu) narrated that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “If anyone fasts the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards, all his past sins will be forgiven.” (Bukhari, 38)

Ramadan is means of seeking salvation from the Fire of Jahannam.

Jabir (radhiallahu ‘anhu) narrated that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “At every breaking of the fast Allah has people whom He frees (from the Fire), and that happens every night.” (Ibn Majah, 1643)

Your statements are factual. Ramadan does disrupt one’s routine and it is difficult. [1] However, the sacrifice for that is greatly rewarded. A believer should look forward to make investments for the hereafter.
