Can an employee of a contract company be assigned to work in an unlawful company?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

As salaamu alaikum Respected Mufti

I have a friend who does building maintenance. He had been struggling for a job. Recently he got a job with a contract company. The company required him to work at S. A. Breweries. He took the job. One of our Ulama has advised him that he should leave the job as his income there is doubtful.

Please advise

May Allah Ta’ala continue his blessings upon you all.. Ameen

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible for your friend to do building maintenance for S.A. Breweries on behalf of his company. His income will be Halaal.

As Muslims, we are averse to breweries. We understand the predicament of your friend in struggling for a job. If your friend finds a suitable alternative, he should consider that.[i]

And Allah Taala Knows Best
