Question

Are boar bristle brushes halal or haram in Islam?

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Allah (SWT) clearly mentions in the Quran the meat of swine (pigs) is unlawful for us.[1]

The scholars have discussed the matter and said that the pig is haram to consume, while all its body parts are considered impure, whether it was dead or alive.[2]

The hair of the pig is also impure. If it is wet or if the hair is wet and the hair is combed then the impurity would be passed over. This would require the hair to be washed to remove the impurity.[3]

Therefore, it is not permissible to use brushes with bristles made from boars, due to it being impure.
