What constitutes a period?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I’d like 2 knw, if a women rubs her finger inside the vagina, n touches the cervix and notices pink blood on the tissue, is it regarded as a period or do u hav to wait till the blood flows down and whn u jus wipe to b regarded as a period? Jazakallah

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The blood will be regarded as haidh only if it comes out by itself and is visible outside. In the enquired situation, the blood is still inside. It will not be regarded as haidh. [1]
