Can I keep these name for my child?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Inshallah we are expecting our second child. If we are blessed with daughter, we want to name her Afiyah Fatima and if with son., Mohammed Waqiduddin.

I want to know about above mentioned names. What is arabic meaning of Afiyah and Waqid. Is these names have any connection with Sahabis of RasulAllah Sallalaho alai wassallam. We want give name to our children on pious companions.

Who was Waqid Ibn-e-Abdullah. Was he Sahabi of RasulAllah Sallalaho alai wassallam.

Afiyah and Fatima are independent names which have the following meanings:[1]

  1.  Name: Afiyah

Meaning: Good Health

Origin: Arabic

Name: Fatima

Meaning: Accustomed, grown up baby girl(a girl who has been weaned off breast     milk, the name of Prophet Muhammad Swallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam’s daughter.

Origin: Arabic

Afiyah and Fatima both are good names. It will be appropriate to keep these names. We could not find any Sahabiyyah by the name Afiyah.

  1.  Name: Waqid [2]

Meaning: Radiant, shining or ablaze, kindled.

Origin: Arabic

Waqid ibn Abdullah  Radiallahu Anhu was a companion of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam

who participated in the Nakhla raid during Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam era.

He was the first person to kill someone in the name of Islam. While the Quraysh were busy preparing food during the Nakhla raid, the Muslims attacked. In the short battle that took place, Waqid ibn Abdullah killed Amr ibn Hadrami by shooting an arrow at the leader of the Quraysh caravan. The Muslims captured two Quraysh tribe members. Nawfal ibn Abdullah managed to escape. The Muslims took Uthman ibn Abdullah and al-Hakam ibn Kaysan as captives. Abdullah ibn Jahsh returned to Medina with the booty and with the two prisoners. The followers planned to give one-fifth of the booty to Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam.[3]

Mohammed Waqiduddin is a suitable name.
