Eating At a Bank Employee’s Home

By Mufti Taqi Usmani

Q.) Amongst my friends and relations, I have a number of people who are working in banks/insurance companies, etc. Is it okay to have food at their house? Please advise. [Zahid Ansari. UAE]

A). It is not permissible according to Shariah to have a job in a conventional bank, which involves the employees in prohibited transactions like interest. Such a job being Haram income received through it is not Halal. If a bank employee has no other source of income or most of his income is derived through this impermissible job, it should be avoided to have food at his house.
