Reply to Adhan: Live and Recorded

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

i understand the reply that is to be given to the Adhaan, but does this apply to the Adhaan that is heard at home (from a clock or computer) or just in the masjid?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray that this finds you well, and in the best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you all good and success in this life and the next.

One replies to a live recitation of the adhan, whether heard directly or through a live broadcast. One doesn’t reply to recorded adhans–such as those on alarm clocks.

[ ref: Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar; Shaykh Hassan al-Hindi of Damascus]

And Allah alone gives success.
