Is the mothers curse applicable if I don’t marry who she wants me to marry? I have an unconsummated Nikah last year, and my mother is threatening me that she will curse me for the rest of my life if I don’t go back home to Pakistan and consummate/live with her. Please help me in this matter as it is causing arguments in my family. I am 21 years of age.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaykum

In the name of Allah, the Inspirer of truth

The best course of action for you is to listen to your mother and go through with this marriage. However, if you think it will be religiously detrimental to you or that you will not be able to live with this person because of major personality differences and will problem end up in a divorce in the future, then lovingly and politely continue to refuse consummating the marriage and divorce the women.

Insha Allah, if you have valid grounds to not proceed with this marriage then your mother’s prayer against you should not be accepted.

And Allah knows best.
