Our child died in the womb before delivery. What do we need to do? wash funeral…
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate. May His blessings and peace be on His Beloved Prophet, the best of creation, and his family, companions, and followers
Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,
May Allah grant you patience and steadfastness in your loss. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said,
“Strange indeed are the affairs of a true believer, for all their affairs are for the good—and this is not true of anyone but a true believer. If something pleasing befalls them, they are thankful, and that is good for them. If something difficult befalls them, they are patient, and that is good for them.” [Related by Muslim, from Suhayb al-Rumi (Allah be pleased with him)]
The Fatawa Hindiyya, a leading classic fatwa reference in the Hanafi school, states that a child that died in the womb is
Washed
Prayed over, and
Buried
If any signs of life appeared in the child.
If no signs of life appeared, then are
Washed, and
Buried, without being prayed over.
[Fatawa Hindiyya, 1.159 quoting Shaykh al-Islam Marghinani’s Hidaya]
May Allah grant you strength and ease in your difficulty. Our supplications are with you and your family.
Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
