Praying alone behind a man

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Ustadha Zaynab Ansari, SunniPath Academy Teacher

In a small masjid, if there is a non-mahram man leading the prayer and I am the only woman (the only person) praying behind him, is it permissible? There are other sisters in the masjid, but due to some reason they are not joining the jama’ah.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Yes, it is permissible. The Reliance says that the minimum required to make a group prayer is the imam and one follower. It doesn’t say that the follower has to be male. Just make the intention to follow the imam.

And Allah knows best.
