Praying behind husband

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Salaam alaykum
When I pray behind my husband and he’s reciting aloud the Fatiha and then other Surah in the first 2 raka of fajr, Maghreb and isha prayers , is it obligatory that I move my lips while he is reciting or can I just listen attentively? Would my prayer still be valid if I don’t move my lips and just Listin? I ask because it confuses me n sometimes I lose my place if I have to move my lips since he’s speaking over me and I don’t know Arabic as I just have it memorized

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

Not only is it permissible, it is compulsory (Wajib) for you to remain silent and listen to the Qira’ah of the Imam. It is not permissible to move your lips or recite anything, rather you should remain silent and just listen to his recitation.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best

Wassalaam,
