Is It Permissible for a Menstruating Woman To Perform Wudu Before Going to Bed?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Answered by: Shaykh Ahmed bin Mohamed Umarji

Question:

is it permissible for a menstruating woman to perform wudu before going to bed?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Women will be rewarded for the inconvenience which they bear for menses.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.”1

There are 8 things impermissible for a menstruating woman:

  1. Performing Salaah
  2. Fasting
  3. Reciting even a single verse of the Quran
  4. Touching the Quran unless it is covered with a cloth
  5. To enter the masjid
  6. To perform tawaf
  7. To have intercourse
  8. (For a man) to derive any sexual pleasure from any part of the woman’s body from her navel to below her knee2

Performing wudhu will be permissible during menstruation as it does not contravene any of the prohibitions.

Only Allah knows best
