Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by IslamicSolutions.org

Shortened Question:

Is Qurbani permissible for an unborn child?

Question:

Our daughter is due to give birth within another four months.

Is it permissible for my husband and I to make Qurbani for our unborn grandchild?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Qurbani is Wajib upon a Muslim who:-

1)     Possesses the Nisab from after the Eid Salat on the 10th of Zul – Hijjah to before the sun sets on the 12th of Zul Hijjah.

2)     Is Baligh (has attained the age of maturity according to Shariah)

3)     Is not regarded as a traveller according to Shariah.

It is not permissible to offer Qurbani on behalf of an unborn child.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
