As-salaam-ualaikum Shaykh sab. I have heard a hadith about one of the signs of Qiyamah that the river Euphrates (al Furat) will dry up and reveal gold that people will fight over. Is this an authentic narration?
I have wanted to find out about this for a long time because there are many news reports over the last couple of years about this water drying up and countries are starting to fight over it since it flows through many lands. Just today I seen photos of farmland that is in drought because of this.

In the Ahadith there is mention of the River Furaat. Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim رحمهما الله have narrated the Hadith in which the Rasulullah صل الله عليه وسلم said: “The time is close where the river Furaat will unveil a treasure of gold, those who are present should not take anything from it”
Also in another narration it is mentioned that Rasulullah صل الله عليه وسلم said: “A mountain of gold”
In another narration it is also mentioned that the people will fight for this treasure and ninety nine out of a hundred will be killed fighting for it. Only one person from the hundred will survive. And every one of them will be saying: “If only I was the one who survived”.
Hafiz ibn Hajar رحمه الله writes in his commentary of sahih al bukhari (Fathul Bari):
“This hadith indicates that this will take place after the emergence of Imam Mahdi and that is before the descending of Isa عليه السلام and before the fire appears and Allah knows best”.
ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ ﻋﺒﺪ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺑﻦ ﺳﻌﻴﺪ اﻟﻜﻨﺪﻱ، ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ ﻋﻘﺒﺔ ﺑﻦ ﺧﺎﻟﺪ، ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ ﻋﺒﻴﺪ اﻟﻠﻪ، ﻋﻦ ﺧﺒﻴﺐ ﺑﻦ ﻋﺒﺪ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ، ﻋﻦ ﺟﺪﻩ ﺣﻔﺺ ﺑﻦ ﻋﺎﺻﻢ، ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻫﺮﻳﺮﺓ، ﻗﺎﻝ: ﻗﺎﻝ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻰ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ: «ﻳُﻮْﺷِﻚ الفراﺕ ﺃﻥ ﻳﺤﺴﺮ ﻋﻦ ﻛَﻨﺰ ﻣِﻦ ﺫَﻫﺐ، ﻓﻤَﻦ ﺣَﻀﺮﻩ ﻓَﻼَ ﻳَﺄﺧﺬ ﻣﻨﻪُ ﺷَﻴْﺌًﺎ»، ﻗﺎﻝ ﻋﻘﺒﺔ: ﻭﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ ﻋﺒﻴﺪ اﻟﻠﻪ، ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ ﺃﺑﻮ اﻟﺰﻧﺎﺩ، ﻋﻦ اﻷﻋﺮﺝ، ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻫﺮﻳﺮﺓ، ﻋﻦ اﻟﻨﺒﻲ ﺻﻠﻰ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ، ﻣﺜﻠﻪ، ﺇﻻ ﺃﻧﻪ ﻗﺎﻝ: «ﻳﺤﺴﺮ ﻋﻦ ﺟﺒﻞ ﻣﻦ ﺫﻫﺐ»
ﺃﺧﺮﺟﻪ البخاري وﻣﺴﻠﻢ ﻓﻲ اﻟﻔﺘﻦ ﻭﺃﺷﺮاﻁ اﻟﺴﺎﻋﺔ ﺑﺎﺏ ﻻ ﺗﻘﻮﻡ اﻟﺴﺎﻋﺔ ﺣﺘﻰ ﻳﺤﺴﺮ اﻝﻓﺮاﺕ. . ﺭﻗﻢ 2894
ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ ﻗﺘﻴﺒﺔ ﺑﻦ ﺳﻌﻴﺪ، ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ ﻳﻌﻘﻮﺏ ﻳﻌﻨﻲ اﺑﻦ ﻋﺒﺪ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ اﻟﻘﺎﺭﻱ، ﻋﻦ ﺳﻬﻴﻞ، ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻴﻪ، ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻫﺮﻳﺮﺓ، ﺃﻥ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻰ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ، ﻗﺎﻝ:
” ﻻَ ﺗَﻘُﻮﻡ اﻟﺴَﺎﻋَﺔ ﺣَﺘﻰ ﻳﺤﺴﺮ الفُرَاﺕ ﻋَﻦ ﺟَﺒَﻞ ﻣِﻦ ﺫَﻫﺐ، ﻳﻘﺘﺘﻞ اﻟﻨﺎﺱ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ، ﻓَﻴَﻘﺘﻞ ﻣِﻦ ﻛُﻞِّ ﻣﺎﺋﺔ، ﺗﺴﻌﺔ ﻭﺗﺴﻌﻮﻥ، ﻭﻳَﻘُﻮﻝُ ﻛُﻞُّ ﺭَﺟُﻞٍ ﻣِﻨْﻬُﻢ: ﻟﻌﻠﻲ ﺃﻛﻮﻥ ﺃَﻧَﺎ اﻟْﺬِﻱْ ﺃَﻧْﺠُﻮْ
”
ﻓﻲ ﺣﺪﻳﺚ اﻟﺒﺎﺏ ﺩﻝ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺃﻧﻪ ﺇﻧﻤﺎ ﻳﻘﻊ ﻋﻨﺪ ﻇﻬﻮﺭ اﻟﻤﻬﺪﻱ ﻭﺫﻟﻚ ﻗﺒﻞ ﻧﺰﻭﻝ ﻋﻴﺴﻰ ﻭﻗﺒﻞ ﺧﺮﻭﺝ اﻟﻨﺎﺭ ﺟﺰﻣﺎ ﻭاﻟﻠﻪ ﺃﻋﻠﻢ
