Question

According to Islam, is velvet fabric halal for men?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Velvet in and of itself is not impermissible as it is woven with materials that are forbidden, like silk.[1] However, some velvet has more than 50% silk and that is impermissible. Anything less than that is said to be permitted and if there is doubt about this, it is better to be left alone. For more details on this, please check the Darul Ifta Birmingham website.[2]
