Question

Why is crab meat considered halal?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In The Name Of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most-Merciful

Answer:

According to the Hanafi madhhab, it is only permissible to eat fish from the sea. All other living creatures of the sea are not to be eaten, including crab meat. (1)

It should be noted that there is a difference in opinion in this matter, therefore some schools of thought do consider crab meat to be halal. According to the other madhhabs, all the living creatures of the sea are permissible to eat (with certain exceptions).
