Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,
The children of the deceased will get a share from the inheritance. The exact portions will depend on who were the surviving heirs when he passed away.
As for the grandchildren, they could get, or in some cases, they will be deprived. Again, it depends on who were the remaining heirs alive at that time.
