The Hadith, ‘None of you [truly] believes until his desires are subservient to that which I have brought’

Question

What is the reference for this Hadith?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,

“None of you [truly] believes until his desires are subservient to that which I have brought.”

 

Answer

This narration is recorded in Kitabus Sunnah of Imam Ibn Abi ‘Asim (rahimahullah) on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma).

(Kitabus Sunnah, Hadith: 15)

 

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has also recorded a similar narration with slight variation in the wording.
