Question

Is this Hadith authentic?

“Whoever seeks forgiveness for the believing men and women every day twenty-seven times will be among those whose prayers are answered and those by whom the people of the earth receive provision and rain.”

Answer

This is the the complete narration, part of which has already been answered here.

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith. The wording is as follows:

Sayyiduna Abud Darda (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported: “I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say, ‘Whoever seeks forgiveness on behalf of the believing males and females, twenty five (25) or twenty seven (27) times daily, will have his du’as accepted and [he will be among those] through whom the people of the earth receive provisions.’”

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir; Refer: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10 pg. 210)

The chain of narrators for this Hadith is weak, but the Hadith is suitable to quote and for practice as is the rule with Hadiths of this nature.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
