Marrying a woman merely for her wealth

Question

Is this narration reliable?

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever marries a woman for her wealth, Allah will deprive him of her money and beauty”

Answer

‘Allamah Zarkashi (rahimahullah) has stated that these words are unknown [to be a Hadith. لايعرف]. ‘Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahullah) has stated that he has not come across these words in a Hadith (لم أقف عليه). In fact, Mulla ‘Ali Al Qari (rahimahullah) has cited this narration in his book on fabricated Hadiths.

(Refer: Al Maqasidul Hasanah: 1097, Al Asrarul Marfu’ah: 475, Al Masnu’: 326)

The following narrations should be quoted instead:

1) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) has reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) has said: ‘A woman is married for four things: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty, and her din. Be victorious through (marrying) the one with din. May your hands be soiled (with dust/dirt).

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 5090)

2) Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu). says, I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say: “Whomsoever marries a woman due to her honour/fame, Allah will increase his disgrace. Whomsoever marries her for her wealth, Allah will only increase his poverty and whoever marries her due to her lineage, Allah will only increase him in lowliness/disgrace. Whomsoever marries solely to protect his gaze, his private part or to join ties, Allah will bless her for him and Allah will him for her [i.e. Allah will make both partners a source of blessings for each other].”

(Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 2363)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
