Abrogated verses in the Quran.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. Please give explanation about abrogated verses in the Holy Quran.

A. A Muslim is required to accept everything in the Holy Quran. This is compulsory and there is absolutely no difference of opinion in this matter.

With respect to the verses in question which have been abrogated, (as mentioned by the Commentators) this is exactly the case. However, this does not mean that a Muslim can reject the abrogated verses which are in the Quran. Instead, one is required to accept them and believe that they are from Allah. However because of Allah’s order, practice would not be made upon such verses. So Imaan and acceptance must be there, however practice may not necessarily be required.

And Allah knows best.
