Question

I work in a gas station. The gas is mixed with a minimum 10% to 15% alcohol which is drinkable alcohol. Wine and beer has less alcohol. Is my income halal?

Answer:

Abdullah ibn Masood narrates that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:

“Seeking of halal earnings is compulsory after the obligatory duties.”[1]

It would be advisable for you to seek means of earning which is clear in terms of halal and to abstain from doubtful income.

Regarding your question, one should try his best to avoid working in such environments where alcoholic traces are present.

The Prophet (PBUH) has cursed ten things connected with alcohol and two of them are the seller and the consumer of its revenue.[2]

Nevertheless, if another alternative career is not possible, then instead of unemployment one could work there until Allah opens up other avenues. One should also give a portion of his earnings to charity as a certain percentage of his income will consist of sales from alcohol traces.

Only Allah knows best
