Definition of wet dream (ihtilaam)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If a person intentionally or unintentionally thinks of things that cause sexual excitement, and then experiences wetness, will this be called a wet dream (احتلام)?

Bismillaah

A: Ihtilaam is when a person wakes up from his sleep and finds semen on his clothing due to a wet dream. If wetness comes out in one’s wakeful state, this is not regarded as ihtilaam.

The sharee law in regard to this situation is that if mazi comes out then the wudu will break but ghusal will not become compulsory. If mani (semen) comes out ghusal will become compulsory.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
