Goat Meat from New Zealand

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualykum Wa Rahmatullah

Is it allowed to consume goat meat from Newzealand? We are hearing different opinions from local Shiekh on NZ meat sold in Costco.

The NZ grade association confirms strict rules are implemented to follow halal slaughtering rules. One point of interest is animal is soft stunned and then hand slaughtered. Ten stunning is not strong enough to kill the animal and its reversible. Details in below link.

The ulamah kiram of Halal Monitoring Services of Shariah Board of America recently visited some of the Halal slaughter facilities in New Zealand. They also established a relationship with the reputed Halal Certification authorities there and are alhumdulillah in communication with them. However, the HMS performs case by case review of products which are being brought from NZ and sold here in the US. We cannot issue one blanket ruling regarding all NZ meat, therefore please email more details of the specific product(s) in question along with clear pictures of the product from all sides to info@hmsusa.org. This will help us look at the Plant where it was slaughtered and/or processed and other pointers we need for our analysis.

If we have knowledge of the product we will inform you, if we do not have details available for the product in question we will InshahAllah work with our counterparts in NZ to get you the information.
