Travelling with one’s mother and her mahram

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it permissible to travel with your mother’s mahram whilst your mother is present? I don’t have a mahram who can take me to go and see my sick nani. So is it permissible if I travel with my mother and my brother in law and his wife (which is my sister)? Pardah will be observed as well.

Bismillaah

A: It is not permissible for you to travel without a mahram. The hadith has prohibited a woman from travelling without a mahram. Your brother in law is your mother’s mahram and not your mahram. Untill you do not have a mahram to accompany you on the journey, you should not travel.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
