A narration regarding the burial of Danyal (‘alayhis salam)

What is status of following Hadith?

من دل على دانيال فبشروه بالجنة

Give glad tidings of Jannah to the one who points out the [body of] Danyal

Answer

‘Allamah Ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) has cited this narration and has referenced it to ‘Ahkamul Qubur’ of Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abid Dunya.

The narration states that Danyal (‘alayhis salam) made du’a to Allah that someone from the Ummah of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) bury him. The name of the person who discovered him was Hurqus. Sayyiduna Abu Musa Al Ash’ari (radiyallahu ‘anhu) wrote to Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) informing him that Hurqus had found the body of Danyal (‘alayhis salam). Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) wrote back saying, “Bury him and send Hurqus to me, for Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) had given glad tidings of Jannah.”

However, ‘Allamah Ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) has expressed reservation with regard to the authenticity (وهذا مرسل من هذا الوجه وفي كونه محفوظا نظر).
