Seek Allah’s protection against all trials

I am looking for the reference of the Hadith wherein Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Seek refuge with Allah from all fitnahs, the apparent ones and the hidden ones”

Answer

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this as part of a longer Hadith. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) once instructed the Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) who were with him to seek Allah’s protection against all trials, the apparent and the hidden trials and they promptly did so by saying:

نَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنَ الْفِتَنِ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ

Na’udhu billahi minal fitani wa zahara minha wa ma batana

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2867)

Translation

We seek Allah’s protection against trials, the apparent and hidden ones.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
