Is the following narration appropriate to quote?
“Whoever desires to be saved from the nineteen dreadful guards over Jahannam known as Zabaniyah, he should recite Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim” (Since it is made up of nineteen letters).
Answer
‘Allamah Qurtubi and Hafiz Ibn Kathir (rahimahumallah) have cited this narration as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu). They have also cited the chain from Imam Waki’ (rahimahullah) to Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu).
The narration is suitable to quote as reported.
