The Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary (Sidra al Muntaha)

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: What is the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary (Sidra al Muntaha)?

Answer:

Wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Dear questioner,

Thank you for your important question.

The Lote-Tree of the Utmost Boundary (Sidra al Muntaha) is a physical tree at the brink of the physical world at which Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) and Sayyidna Jibril came to on the miraculous Night Journey (Isra wa Miraj). Thereupon, the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) went on to see Allah.

The tree is unfathomably beautiful, it has very large leaves and four rivers stem from its roots: two in Paradise and two upon Earth (Fath al Bari, Ibn Hajar al Asqalani).

I pray this helps.
