Is there a dispensation in the Shafi’i school that permits someone in a chronic state of wudu annulment to pray more than one obligatory prayer with a single wudu?
There is no position in our school that permits someone in a chronic state of wudu annulment to pray more than one obligatory prayer with a single wudu.
However, at the end of the chapter on menstruation in the Majmu’, Imam Nawawi transmits easier positions on this issue from other schools. He says: “Abu Hanifa said that purification [h: of someone in a chronic state of wudu annulment] is quantified by the prayer time; such a person therefore may pray as many makeups as she desires during the prayer time. When the prayer time exits, her purification becomes invalid. Rabi’a, Malik, and Dawud said that the blood of a woman in a state of abnormal uterine discharge does not invalidate ritual purity so when she performs wudu, she may pray as many obligatory or non-obligatory prayers as she likes until she enters into a state of ritual impurity through some other means.”
The details of the position of the Maliki masters regarding this issue are that if pre-ejaculate or something similar remains with one for half the prayer time or more, then it does not invalidate the wudu (‘Allama ‘Illish al-Maliki, Minah al-Jalil, 1.65).
Sultan al-‘Ulama al-‘Izz ibn ‘Abd al-Salam indicated [h: to a questioner] in his Fatawa (p. 360) to follow this position. And Allah most High knows best what is correct. [Faraz: Shaykh Amjad confirmed that this is referring to talking this dispensation from the other school, without fulfilling all the other conditions.]
And Allah alone gives success.
