Tarawih and Missed Prayers

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Mawlana Qasim al-Muradabadi

Can one still pray Tarawih even though they are trying to make up missed prayers at that time?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

In the Shafi`i school, the person with missed prayers would not perform tarawih–as making up their missed prayers is more incumbent. (See Related QA, top right.)

If one wishes to, one can follow the Hanafi position. Search SunniPath QA (http://qa.sunnipath.com) for related answers.

And Allah alone gives success.
