Ruling on Deciding Fetus Gender

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Darul Iftaa Jordan
Is it permissible for me to undergone one of the modern scientific methods for begetting a boy, such as injections, test-tube baby, or separation of fetuses, knowing that I have two daughters, and have no problems in conceiving?

Answer:
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions. Deciding the fetus gender through undergoing a modern medical method is a new issue that contemporary jurists have addressed by independent reasoning(Ijtihad). On its part, the Iftaa` Council has assessed this issue, and issued Resolution No.(120) in which it forbade such kind of method, "because, in principle, a Muslim must be satisfied with what Allah has decreed for him/her, whether He has favored them with boys or girls. In addition, the above method violates the principles of Sharia through opening the door for science to meddle with man, creating imbalance between the two sexes, mixing of lineage, and uncovering of private parts." You can access this resolution by clicking on this link: http://aliftaa.jo/DecisionEn.aspx?DecisionId=400#.WJL_9NIrIdU In conclusion, we advise you(Asker) and your husband to be satisfied with what Allah has destined for you, and rest assured that good lies in what Allah has chosen for His righteous believers. And Allah knows best.
